Dr. Christian Tietje is Professor (tenure) for Public Law, European Law and International Economic Law, director of the Institute for Economic Law, and director of the Transnational Economic Law Research Center (TELC) at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Business at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg., Germany. His primary research interests lay in the areas of EU-law, EU foreign commercial policy law, and international economic law (WTO, international investment protection law and arbitration).
Professor Tietje received his legal education at the Universities of Kiel/Germany, Paris V, and University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor. He holds two German law degrees with distinction from 1993/1998, was awarded the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) with distinction in 1995, and received his Dr. jur. (Ph.D.) with distinction in 1997, and his Dr. jur. habil. in 2000. He has published widely (books and articles in law journals), and has advised Governments, international organizations and non-governmental organizations in the above mentioned research areas. Moreover, he has acted as legal advisor in several investment arbitrations.
