Decision in dispute over the Common Area

Introduction
On Monday, 17 January 2004, a decision was handed down in the arbitration proceedings on the State's dispute with NAM, Shell and ExxonMobil over the Common Area. Economic Affairs Minister Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst reported this in a letter to the Second Chamber of Parliament. The arbitration proceedings concerned the State's share of a sum of DEM 4.6 billion (EUR 2.35 billion) that NAM received from Brigitta for excess gas that Brigitta had previously taken up.
