James Nicholson is a senior managing director in the Paris office of FTI Consulting and a member of the firm's International Arbitration practice.
James has testified before ICSID and ICC tribunals on behalf of claimants and respondents across a wide range of industries and issues, primarily involving issues of the identification and valuation of lost profits, and the valuation of businesses, financial assets including shareholdings, and other assets, and of wasted costs. James is currently acting for claimants and respondents in several cases with more than $1bn in dispute.
James has been listed since its inception in 2010 by The International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration as one of the leading experts worldwide active in commercial arbitration; this publication has described him as "outstanding" and "highly proficient". In 2014, 17 FTI Consulting experts were among the 103 identified: significantly more than any other firm.
James is Chairman of the Standing Committee of the ICC's Centre for Expertise. The CFA Institute has awarded James the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. James holds a Master in Public Policy degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, where he was a Fulbright Scholar, and was awarded first class honours in his BA from Oxford University in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
