Ms Florence Shako (née Gakungi) is a Lecturer at Riara Law School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi School of Law in 2010. She graduated at the top of her class and received three prestigious awards for being the best overall law student that is, the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund prize, the Kaplan and Stratton Advocates prize and the Mohammed/Muigai Advocates prize. Thereafter, Ms Shako received the Margaret Bennet Scholarship and the New Futures Fund Scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She specialised in Corporate and Commercial Law graduating in 2012. She also holds several professional qualifications and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya and the Law Society of Kenya.
Ms Shako holds a postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and is admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She undertook her pupillage at Muma and Kanjama Advocates. In addition to being a practising advocate, Ms Shako has five years experience in academia. She has previously lectured Company law, UK and Kenyan Taxation Law and the Law of Contracts at the Strathmore Law School, Strathmore School of Management and Commerce and the Strathmore School of Accountancy.
Her areas of scholastic interest include Commercial Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Law of Contracts, the Law of Business Associations, Labour law, Accounting for Lawyers, Tort Law, Human Rights Law and Constitutional Law. Her ongoing research relates to the different Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms and their impact on the justice system in Kenya.
