Sylvia Noury
Profile
Sylvia is a partner in Freshfields' international arbitration group and head of the Africa disputes group, having practised in the London, Paris and New York offices. She has represented corporations and states in numerous commercial and investment treaty arbitrations, including under the rules of ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA and AAA. Sylvia has acted for clients in disputes involving a variety of sectors and jurisdictions, with a focus on mitigating risks and resolving disputes in emerging markets.
Sylvia was selected as one of the 45 leading figures of the international arbitration bar under the age of 45 ("GAR 45 under 45") and featured in The Lawyer's "Hot 100" lawyers in 2011. She is ranked in Legal 500, Chambers and LATIN LAWYER 250. Sylvia has spoken and published widely in the field of arbitration. Her speaking roles include conferences organised by the IBA, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, AIPN, BIICL, ABA, ITA, CRCICA, YAS and AIJA. She is a Member of the Arbitration Committee of the ICC and the Editorial Board of Global Arbitration Review (GAR). She is also Founder and Co-Chair of the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge. Sylvia holds a first class law degree from Cambridge University. She is fluent in Spanish and also speaks French
