From NAFTA to USMCA: Changes to the Rules of Origin in Chapter 4 and Potential Impact on the Auto Industry
Article from: TDM 3 (2020), in USMCA - NAFTA
Abstract
This paper discusses changes to the rules of origin requirements for automotive and automotive parts included in the recently negotiated U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). These changes reflect the shifting trade policies of the Trump Administration, and a closer examination of these provisions is warranted due to the significant impact the changed approach to origin rules will have on the automotive industry, and the wider implications of this shifting trade policy.
