Prof. Dr. Markus Perkams
Profile
Markus is qualified in Germany and England & Wales and co-heads the International Arbitration Group of Addleshaw Goddard. He is based in Munich and his practice focuses on complex national and international disputes, both before state courts and arbitral tribunals.
Since writing his PhD on the concept of indirect expropriation in investment treaties in the early 2000s Markus has developed a specific focus on the protection of foreign investment under International Investment Agreements and comparable instruments. He regularly counsels his clients on all sorts of issues relating to investment treaties (ranging from the effective structuring of investments to the conduct of negotiations at the beginning of a dispute and the representation of parties in arbitrations) and he has specific expertise in disputes concerning the successor states of the former Soviet Union.
In addition to his practical experience, he is an honorary professor at the University of Cologne where he regularly lectures on investment treaty law and acts as an academic advisor to the International Investment Law Center Cologne (IILCC).
