JAIME P. ZALDUMBIDE was borne in Quito, in 1957. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Political Science in 1981, and, his Doctorate in Law in 1983 from the Catholic University of Quito. In 2004 he obtained his Master Degree in Environmental Law from the University of the Basque Country from San Sebastian, Spain.
He has attended several post graduate programs: In Negotiations at Harvard Law School, in Arbitration and Oil & Gas at the Southwestern Legal Foundation in Dallas, and also in Dallas, in Oil & Gas Management at the Southern Methodist University.
In his legal practice he has worked as an associate lawyer of Pérez Bustamante & Ponce law firm, from Quito, Ecuador: In 1996 he became a Partner of the firm and in 2005 he was appointed as its Managing Partner until 2008.
Between 1991 and 1996, he worked as Chief Counsel of Kerr McGee Oil and Gas Corporation in Quito. He also served as Private Secretary to the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Ecuador from 1984 to 1987.
He is a member of the Quito Bar Association, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), and of the Board of Directors of CEDA (Ecuadorian Center of Environmental Law). He also served as Member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Industries of Quito. Jaime is the Head of the Legal Committee of the Ecuadorian Hydrocarbons Industry (AIHE) and an Arbitrator of the Construction Chamber of Quito. He also represents the firm before RIELA (Inter-American Network of Environmental Legislation Specialist) which involves only one law firm per country.
His main areas of legal practice are: Oil & Gas, Environment, Power Generation, Mining, Commercial and Foreign Investment law.
