David Roney

David Roney is a partner in the International Arbitration practice at Sidley Austin LLP. He has acted as counsel before international arbitral tribunals in a broad range of commercial disputes involving general contract law, share purchase and asset purchase agreements, international joint venture agreements, construction and manufacturing contracts, distribution and licensing arrangements, sponsorship contracts and sports.
Mr Roney has served on a number of occasions as chairman, sole arbitrator and co-arbitrator under the ICC Rules, the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration and in ad hoc arbitration. He is listed on the Roster of Arbitrators of the ICC National Committee for Canada and of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre.
Mr Roney was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor, Ontario, Canada, in 1993 and as Solicitor, England and Wales, in 2000. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University (at Kingston) in 1988 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto in 1991.
Mr Roney is a Co-Founder and Executive Committee Member of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy and Co-Chair of the ICC Commission on Arbitration Task Force on "National Rules of Procedure for Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards pursuant to the New York Convention of 1958". He is also a Member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration, the ICC National Committee for Canada, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Swiss Arbitration Association, the London Court of International Arbitration and several other leading international arbitration and legal organizations. He speaks and publishes regularly on international arbitration.
