Prof. Dr. Ralph Alexander Lorz

Prof. Dr. R. Alexander Lorz holds the Chair of German and Foreign Public Law, European Law and Public International Law at Heinrich Heine University of Duesseldorf since 2000. From 2007 through 2009, he was on a sabbatical leave to serve as Vice Minister for Higher Education, Research and the Arts in the State Government of Hesse. Prof. Lorz has studied at the Universities of Mainz, Marburg and Mannheim, earned an LL.M. degree at Harvard Law School in 1994 and is admitted to practice law in Germany and New York.
His research work focuses on the European Common Market and International Economic Law. He has recently published an extensive report on the protection of foreign investment in Germany and is currently contributing to a new encyclopedia of European Law as well as to a handbook on International Investment Law. His practical experience includes being a legal adviser in ICSID cases. Moreover, he is a co-founder of the Duesseldorf Institute on Foreign and Security Policy and a member of the Board of Directors of the German-American Lawyers' Association.
