Professor Laura Carballo Piñeiro specializes in private international law, international litigation, private comparative law and international insolvency law.
She has been visiting fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law, Columbia Law University, the Institute of European and Comparative Law at Oxford University, and the Centre for Private International Law at the University of Aberdeen. She has also taught in a number of institutions in Europe and Latin America (Estonia, France, Italy, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela).
A Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, her reseach has been published in a number of international journals in English, German, Italian and Spanish. She belongs to the research group De Conflictu Legum.
Professor Carballo received a PhD in civil procedure law from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a PhD in international insolvency from the University of Vigo, where she won the Extraordinary Prize for outstanding doctoral dissertation.
She is admitted to practice as a lawyer and has worked as a deputy judge in Spain. She has also served as scientific expert for the European Research Council.
Professor Carballo has also been selected to serve as Director of Studies at The Hague Academy of International Law in 2017.
