Joel Slawotsky is a former law clerk to the Hon. Charles H. Tenney, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York and AV peer-review rated attorney at Sonnenschein (now Dentons) where he represented large corporations. Joel litigated in both Federal and state court at the trial and appellate levels. Among significant rulings and verdicts obtained: a New Jersey appellate court ruling affirming a trial court decision exonerating his client based upon a lack of alleged corporate successor liability; a New York trial decision remitting a $13 million jury trial verdict by nearly 60% and obtaining a jury defense verdict on behalf of a client after being called in to represent the client after the trial had already commenced.
Joel teaches in law and business schools and has published extensively on corporate governance, corporate liability for violations of international law, Federal civil procedure, international economic law, shareholder activism, regulation of sovereign wealth funds, and other business and corporate law topics. He has published in dozens of venues including: Asia Pacific Law Review, Chinese Journal of International Law, Journal of World Trade, Hong Kong Law Journal, Chinese Journal of Comparative Law, Tsinghua China Law Review, the international law journals of Duke, Emory, Georgetown, Qatar Univ. and Virginia as well as the U. Penn business law journal, Delaware Journal of Corporate Law and Review of Banking and Finance Law.
