Craig Bamberger has been a partner in a Washington, DC, law firm with experience in oil company representation and public international law issues, a US Energy Department lawyer responsible for international energy and emergency preparedness matters, and from 1992 through 2001, General Counsel of the International Energy Agency in Paris. While at the US Energy Department he headed the legal work for negotiation of the energy provisions of the US-Canada Free-Trade Agreement and the NAFTA. During his tenure at the IEA, he also served as chair of the legal advisory committee to the Energy Charter Treaty negotiation. He has since been active in writing and speaking about the Energy Charter Treaty.
Subsequent to retiring from the IEA at the end of 2001 Mr. Bamberger, who resides in a suburb of Washington, DC, has consulted on US critical infrastructure protection and restoration issues, provided legal advice on energy investment dispute arbitration, and written a book for publication by the IEA.
