Profile
Michael Bunter is an English petroleum geologist who graduated from the University of London in 1967. He began his oilfield career in 1968 in Libya and then worked in the Philippines and in Indonesia. In 1974 he joined the American oil company CONOCO where he remained for nearly ten years working in Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States (where he participated in Dubai exploration and production) and in Egypt.
After some years with a major British consulting company where he became Chief Petroleum Geologist, he established his own petroleum consultancy B and R Co, which specialises in the evaluation of petroleum investment opportunities around the world, and in training. During his time as a consultant, Mr Bunter has worked in Kuwait and in Oman and has recently completed a book on petroleum licensing, The Promotion and Licensing of Petroleum Prospective Acreage, published in 2001 by Kluwer Law International of the Netherlands.
He is the author of many articles published in the on-line journal OGEL: Oil, Gas, Energy Law Intelligence Service, as well as technical papers on the petroleum geology of south-east Asia, on Egypt and on the Sudanese and Eritrean Red Sea. He has written textbooks on International Petroleum Legislation, Agreements and Contracts, on Petroleum Regulation and Monitoring and on the Application of the Islamic (Sharia) Law on Petroleum Licensing.

In this 180 page monograph Mr Bunter recounts the complex politics of Libya and also its history and attempts to relate current events to the evolution of Libyan geopolitics.
This monograph is aimed at the new ventures groups of the international oil and gas industry, at other current and future investors in Libya and north Africa, to consumer-country opinion-formers as well as to public and private oil and gas consumers, and to others who may need to take long-term views on developments in Libya. It is a companion to the 350 page book "The Libyan Petroleum Industry in the Twenty First century: the Upstream, Midstream and Downstream Handbook".
