Sumit Rai is an Independent Counsel with over 10 years' experience. He has vast experience in international and domestic arbitration and related litigation. He has acted in arbitrations held under all major institutional rules and governed by various substantive laws.
Sumit has special expertise in handling multijurisdictional disputes and provides strategic advice for dispute management. He also has experience in advising with relation to impact of bilateral investment treaties (BITs) on transactions and disputes.
Sumit has acted in disputes relating to a broad spectrum of sectors including infrastructure, construction, energy, media, hospitality and government contracting.
Sumit graduated (LL.B) from Government Law College, Mumbai and is enrolled in the Indian Bar since 2007. He completed his Masters from the Geneva LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS, 2011) where he was awarded the first rank.
Sumit regularly writes in peer reviewed journals and blogs and speaks at conferences on various issues relating to arbitration, bilateral investment treaties, and dispute management. In the past, Sumit was a partner in a leading Mumbai firm, where he headed the arbitration practice ranked in GAR 100.
