Chantal Bennett is an Attorney-at-Law who is in the process of transitioning to practice in the area of civil litigation at one of Jamaica's leading law firms (DunnCox). Chantal previously worked as the Corporate Secretary and Head of the Legal Unit of Jamaica's Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) for over two years. The SEZA is Jamaica's agency that regulates and monitor Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and facilitates investments through providing fiscal incentives to investors whose applications are approved.
Prior to joining the SEZA, Chantal worked for the Government of Jamaica's main legal advisor, the Attorney-General's Chambers, in its International Law Division, where she researched and provided advice on a plethora of matters including Jamaica's obligation to the World Trade Organization, regional trade agreements, bilateral treaties, SEZs, mutual legal assistance and human rights. Prior to practising law in Jamaica, Chantal received training in the area of international investment and commercial arbitration at the international law firm McDermott, Will and Emery at its Frankfurt's office.
Through Chantal's professional and educational experience, she has developed expertise in corporate governance, SEZs, trade law, law of the sea, human rights, arbitration and negotiation of contracts. Chantal holds a Bachelor of Science in International Relations and Politics and a Bachelor of Laws.
