Ahmed Yasin Jelle is a PhD Candidate at the University of Bristol, specializing in the enhancement of regional economic integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other regional economic communities. His research focuses on advancing regional value chains in industries such as automotives to foster market integration. In addition to his doctoral studies, Ahmed teaches International Trade Law, General International Law, and Contract Law to undergraduate and postgraduate students. His extensive legal experience includes roles as an Advocate at Kaplan & Stratton Advocates and Principal Associate at ALN Africa Anjarwalla & Khanna LLP, where he was part of a team that launched the International Trade Law Practice. His hands-on involvement in advising on the negotiation of key trade agreements, including the US-Kenya FTA and early stages of the Kenya-UK Economic Partnership Agreement, underpins his robust expertise in international economic law. Ahmed has also practiced as a commercial disputes resolution and constitutional lawyer in the Kenyan judicial system, as well as in ad hoc tribunals.

An LL.M. holder in Law & Globalisation from the University of Bristol and an LL.B. graduate from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Ahmed actively contributes to professional bodies like the Law Society of Kenya, the Trade and Public Policy Network (TaPP) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. His research aims to bridge academic inquiry with practical international trade law applications, shaping both scholarly dialogue and policymaking in Africa's evolving trade landscape.
