Yas Banifatemi

Yas Banifatemi is a Partner at Shearman & Sterling (Paris). She is one of the leading specialists in public international law and international arbitration. She has advised multinational corporations and governments on a variety of public international law issues, including State responsibility, law of treaties, State contracts, immunities of States and international organizations, boundaries, and law of the sea. She has also represented multinational corporations, States and State-owned entities in over 50 international arbitration cases (focusing on international investment law, oil & gas, mergers & acquisitions disputes, and general commercial matters).
Yas Banifatemi holds an LLM from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D in Public International Law from the University of Panthéon-Assas (Paris II). She has authored, co-authored and co-edited numerous publications on public international law and international arbitration, both in French and in English. She regularly appears as speaker and lecturer on issues of international arbitration as well as public international law (including at the Hague Academy of International Law).
