Introduction

This edition of UNCTAD's IIA Monitor reveals that after a substantial decrease in the number of investor-State disputes in 2006, a new surge took place in 2007. The Monitor analyses the latest substantive implications of these disputes and the most significant awards rendered in 2007. The monitor concludes that the broad variety of IIA provisions becoming the subject of investor-State disputes and the complexity of the issues involved require more technical assistance and capacity-building on these matters.
