Introduction

Article 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) provides that the Contracting Parties have to secure the rights and freedoms protected by the substantive norms of the Convention and its Protocols for everyone within the jurisdiction. Therefore, the States parties to the Convention have to guarantee the right to peaceful enjoyment of one's possession as enshrined in Article 1 of the Additional Protocol (AP-1) to the European Convention to everyone within their jurisdiction irrespective of the nationality of the owner of the property.
