This survey reviews IPR protection standards in the context of WTO and IP chapters of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs). It then examines the extent to which BITs and investment chapters of RTAs provide for IPR protection above the standards embodied in the WTO-TRIPS Agreement. Finally, it reviews the role that the investor-state dispute settlement mechanisms have played so far in addressing IPR-related disputes.
