On September 9, 2012, Canada and China signed a new investment agreement, known in Canada as a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement ("FIPA"), and elsewhere as a Bilateral Investment Treaty ("BIT"). The Canada-China FIPA is the result of nearly two decades of effort.
