Abstract
This article traces the development of immunity from seizure
and suit statutes. In so doing, it considers the role that
immunity plays in resolving art disputes and the nature of the
balance between achieving a just outcome for claimants and
encouraging the role that art plays as cultural ambassadors
fostering understanding, co-operation and comity between
nations.
