Introduction

A new set of overhauled ICC Rules of Arbitration (the "2012 ICC Rules") came into force on 1 January 2012 after they had remained unaltered for 14 years. Since then we have seen an increase in States and State entities involved in arbitrations under the auspices of the ICC. To cater for their needs, and as an alternative to adopting a separate set of specific rules, the new 2012 ICC Rules are said to take account of the increased presence of State and State entities.
