Abstract

The grant of exclusive competence to the European Union (EU) for Foreign Direct Investment marks the beginning of a new era in international investment regimes. The EU is currently in the process of establishing its own approach to international investment negotiations in order to achieve a more dynamic, even pastoral, role. This paper will consider the Comprehensive European Trade Agreement (CETA) as a suitable model for future EU agreements.
