Abstract

International arbitration has been often misunderstood and poorly supported in much of Africa. This is especially the case with disputes in the oil and gas sector, where high financial stakes combine with national interest and a mix of nationalities. Distrust has resulted from the lack of insight into arbitration proceedings conducted by non-African, private tribunals outside of the continent.
