Abstract

Many policy discussions and seminars have been held and papers written on the recent developments in South Africa that review the country's foreign investment regulatory regime. However, there has been less discussion or writing on a historical analysis of South Africa's decision to embark on the review. This paper approaches South Africa's decision not to renew its bilateral investment treaties from a historical perspective.
