Abstract
China's Maritime Silk Road (MSR) is part of a broader 'One Belt, One Road' (OBOR) project aimed at increasing connectivity between Asian, African, and European markets. Although Chinese investment in Africa predates the formal MSR initiative, countries in East Africa have experienced and can expect to see intensified Chinese investments in infrastructure in order to establish new commercial hubs along the MSR route, linking regions together via railroads, ports, energy transit systems, and telecommunications technology.
