Introduction

Our subject has become a live one for two main reasons. One is the comparative success of the World Trade Organisation appellate system. I do not think anyone will deny that the Appellate Body has had a very significant impact both in terms of individual decisions and in terms of the general perception of the way the WTO dispute settlement system has worked. It has unquestionably enhanced confidence in the WTO as a whole.
