Introduction

An interesting development relating to the US-Uruguay BIT occurred on the sidelines of the Summit of the Americas conference in Buenos Aires early November 2005. As you recall, that BIT was signed about 1 year ago - it was the first (and to date only) fully negotiated utilization of the revised US Model BIT as an investment treaty rather than a chapter in a free trade agreement.
