Introduction

The International Centre for Dispute Resolution ("ICDR") has incorporated a new provision, dealing with emergency measures of protection, into its International Arbitration Rules. The new rule, known as Article 37, became effective on 1 May 2006. It entitles parties to arbitrations under the ICDR Rules to appoint an emergency arbitrator, who will hear requests for emergency relief that may be necessary prior to the formation of the entire arbitration panel.
