2017 FDI Moot (Boston 2-5 November 2017)
5 July 2017
Christian Campbell (Center for International Legal Studies) July 2017 - We are pleased that over one hundred teams have signed up for the 2017 FDI Moot (some still finalising their registrations).
The Global Rounds will be held at Suffolk University in Boston 2-5 November 2017.
The 2017 FDI Moot case involves a "greyscale" epidemic, a contract to supply a patented treatment for greyscale, an unenforced arbitral award (in favour of the supplier) pursuant to the breached contract, and a compulsory licence with respect to the active ingredient of the greyscale treatment.
Young practitioners and academics (+3 years post-qualification) who would like to help us as memorial judges or arbitrators in Boston, please register here: fdimoot.org/college/register.php
If you would like to arbitrate at any of the Regionals, please write asiapacific [at] fdimoot.org for Seoul 9-12 August 2017, southasia [at] fdimoot.org for New Delhi 25-27 August 2017, and africa [at] fdimoot.org for Nairobi 1-2 September 2017.
The Wälde Fund (established by Thomas Wälde and Ian Laird for this purpose in 2008) helps teams from low and medium HDI countries with their travel to and stay at the competition. Skadden will match donations (up to US$2500). If you want to help financially, even small donations help us take full advantage of this matching. For more, see fdimoot.org/college.php?Year=2017&role=TWF
The Wälde Fund has enabled many teams that would otherwise not be able to take part, and who have regularly "punched above their [numerical] weight". In 2016, we received donations of EUR8,498.17 and disbursed EUR10,400 to teams participating in Buenos Aires.
We are making a special effort to fund a prize to help the Africa Regional winner get to Boston. The Africa Regional winner's prize can be exclusively awarded in the name of a sponsor willing to donate EUR 1500 (or more); if no bid of EUR 1500 is received, lesser pledges would be pooled and the award made in the name of an "Africa Investment Arbitration Circle" (or similar) with the donors separately identified on the website. Last year a prize donation was made on behalf IATL, with one of the African advocate's success carrying him on to a full scholarship at the prestigious MIDS LLM in Geneva.
