Profile

ANDREW B. DERMAN is a Senior Partner and the International Energy Practice Group Leader for Thompson & Knight LLP. He counsels public and private companies and host governments in their strategic design, commercial execution, negotiations, contract preparation and interpretation and dispute resolution. Mr. Derman has negotiated and closed acquisitions, divestments and mergers globally and has been involved in unitizations, financing, commercialization of natural gas (including LNG and GTL), infrastructure projects, pipelines, construction agreements, refineries, marketing, lifting agreements, operating agreements, farmouts, alliances, Foreign Corrupt Practice Act and OECD advice, embargo advice, in-house and industry oil and gas seminars, litigation and arbitration (as an advocate, expert and arbitrator). Mr. Derman was with Oryx Energy Company and Sun Company, Inc. (predecessor of Oryx Energy Company) for 20 years where he was responsible for legal, business development, environmental, procurement and planning functions. He attended INSEAD, Advanced Management Program, Fontainebleau, France (1993); Temple University Law School, J.D. (1978); Law Review (1976-78); National Moot Court Advocate (1977); and New York University, B.A. (1974). Mr. Derman is a member of the State Bars of Texas, Pennsylvania and New York and he has been certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the field of Oil, Gas and Mineral Law. Mr. Derman has published over two dozen articles and five books on oil and gas and is a frequent speaker at universities, conferences and seminars.
