Profile

Vanessa Giraud Martinelli studied law at the Universidad Metropolitana (Caracas, Venezuela) in the year 2007. She also attended to the Course on International Private Law in the Hague Academy of International Law in the year 2008 (The Netherlands, Hague). She holds an LLM in International Commercial Arbitration Law from Stockholms Universitet (Stockholm, Sweden) in the year 2009. She also holds certificates in Commercial Law and in International Commercial Arbitration & Litigation from London School of Economics and Political Science (London, UK). She received a scholarship in 2014 from the Paris Arbitration Academy to attend to the Arbitration Academy (Paris, France). She is currently completing a master of laws in private and comparative international law at Universidad Central de Venezuela. She also completed in 2016 the International Program of Management of the Hydrocarbons Business at the Instituto de Estudios Avanzados (IESA) in Caracas, Venezuela.

She began her career in the Department of Litigation and Alternative Methods for the Resolution of Conflicts as a legal assistant in Travieso Evans Arria Rengel & Paz. She also worked in Legal analyst of the Venezuelan-American Chamber of Commerce (Venamcham). In 2009 Vanessa joined as an associate in the Corporate Department of Norton Rose, where she work primary in investment arbitration and general energy arbitration topics, particularly in the research and analysis of specific topics as well as the submission of opinions about complex arbitration topics. In 2013, she became and Associate in the Arbitration Department in Mezgravis & Asociados, where she acted as Co-counsel of Highbury International AVV. and Ramstein Trading Inc. v. Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela at the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Since 2015, Vanessa is an Associate of D´Emapire Reyna Abogados, in the department of Corporate Law.

Vanessa has also a broad experience in international moots, specialized in alternate dispute resolutions. She has participated at the International Commercial Mediation Moot of ICC, in the city of Paris, France in the year 2009.

She has also participated as a team member and a coach of the International Commercial Arbitration Moot Willem C. Vis in the years 2008 and 2009. She has also been Arbitrator of the same competition in the years 2009 and 2010, in the city of Vienna, Austria. She has also been a Coach of the team of Universidad Metropolitana for the First Competition on Commercial Arbitration organized by the Center for Arbitration of the Caracas Chamber of Commerce, in the year 2010.

She has also been a Lecturer in the course for Alternative Methods for the Resolution of Conflicts in Universidad Metropolitana in the academicals period of the year 2009-2010.
