Tonja Jacobi, Patrick Leslie & Zoë Robinson (February/March 2024)

Have you ever wondered when, why and how you would be interrupted during a legal argument? Recent empirical research by Tonja Jacobi, Patrick Leslie & Zoë Robinson answer precisely those questions, using innovative empirical methodology to study judicial interruptions at oral arguments at apex courts in the United States and Australia. Their work involving interruptive behavior shows certain similarities arise, even across national borders, suggesting wider applicability to international arbitration and to litigation in other national courts. This first-ever article author interview will discuss two recent works: (1) "Institutional Design and the Predictability of Judicial Interruptions at Oral Argument" Tonja Jacobi, Patrick Leslie & Zoë Robinson, 22 JOURNAL OF LAW AND COURTS 1 (2023) - www.cambridge.org/core/journals/journal-of-law-and-courts/article/institutional-design-and-the-predictability-of-judicial-interruptions-at-oral-argument/2695A9511F6C28A5A3C3BECED9C76E5A, and (2) Comparative Exceptionalism?
