Symposium on Illegality and Corruption in ISDS (February/March 2025)

Allegations of illegality and corruption are commonly observed in investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) proceedings, sparking ongoing debate among scholars and practitioners. In recent years, some legal standards on illegality applied by tribunals have come under scrutiny, along with countervailing factors such as investor misconduct also gaining attention. Proving corruption also remains a complex challenge, often hindered by insufficient evidence in many cases. In this Young-OGEMID Symposium, our panelists will delve into these critical issues within ISDS, examining the challenges posed by illegality and corruption, and discussing potential developments that could strengthen justice in the realm of international investment law moving forward.
